[PLEASE NOTE PARTICIPATION IS NOW CLOSED. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO EXPLORE OUR STORY-WRITING TOOL, BUT PLEASE NOTE THAT NO DATA OR CONTRIBUTIONS WILL BE RECORDED]

Hello and welcome to this experiment in Configuring ethical AI in healthcare where we will explore and reflect on the stories that figure and shape ethical AI in healthcare.

By taking part, we would like to invite you to add your own short story/stories on ethical AI in healthcare which will reflect your personal and professional experiences and views in a playful and creative way.  Your insights will help us understand more about (a) the messiness and complexity of the stories that shape ethical AI, and (b) the work that is needed to imagine and create alternative ones.

Don’t worry, no previous writing experience is required, there are no right or wrong answers, and you will be prompted by a short series of playful guidances to help you along. We don’t expect this to take more than 10 minutes of your time. Of course, you are free to spend as much time on it as you wish, and we would be more than happy if you decided to have more than one goes!

Please note that each participant's submission will have to be 'approved' before the system gets 'unlocked' and allows the next submission to be entered. This helps us avoid any spam and 'unwelcome' interference. So, if you are unable to submit your entry, please leave it for a few minutes or come back to it at another convenient time, to give us the opportunity to 'unlock' the system.

Otherwise, just follow the instructions and have fun!

Towards the end of this process, I will ask your name and email address. This is optional but very useful for us. It will be used to both share the outcomes of the research at a later date but also enable any follow-ups for future research. Also, if you choose to, you will have the option to leave any further comments on the process. Please note that at the end of this collective exercise, your individual contributions will be collated into bigger stories and used for Phase 2 of this workshop (see below). These fictional stories might also appear on the website and project report.

By taking part, you are consenting to participate in this research.

Finally, this is Phase 1 of this creative experiment. Here you can find out more about Phase 2 (This has now taken place), about the overall project and how we will keep your personal information private and secure.

Let's start!

Imagine you are in a world a bit like this one. It's still you, except you...

have never been to planet Earth before
are an immigrant
belong to a different ethnic group

... and you have been...

feeling exhausted after your hospital shift
working on a new NHS digital service
looking after a close friend after their surgery

... that aside, you find yourself having a heated debate about AI with...

Greta Thunberg
the plumber
your teacher

Right in the middle of a great point, your mind goes blank. The last words to come out of your mouth were...

I really do, but where does profit fit into all this?!

... but what was the point you were making? How were you going to put your argument across? What will you say next?

You're going to have to think on your feet.

Think on your feet

As a quick reminder, you are yourself except you . Recently, you have been . At the moment, you are in the middle of a debate about AI with . The last thing you said was...

I really do, but where does profit fit into all this?!

Right, it's time to speak, what are you going to say next?

Good thinking!

Great! Thank you for helping to create a brand new story about AI and healthcare. If you want to alter your decisions then you can use the navigation buttons at the top of the screen.

If you agree to share, you could leave your name and email address so that we can keep in touch and send you the finished story.

Once you are happy with what you've written, then press the "I'm happy" button.

I’m happy!

We have one more thing to ask. To help us with our research we'd like to know a little bit more about you, why you are interested in healthcare and AI, and/or your thoughts about participating in this project, the process, your contribution or anything else you would like to share with us. You can write as much or as little as you would like.

Otherwise, just leave the textbox empty and press the Submit button.
